How to register a .si domain
Any person or company anywhere can register a .si name. The registry charges €10 a year, your registrar adds a margin, and the whole thing takes about five minutes. The registry's rules first, then where to buy.
Is your name still free?
Type the name you want. The check asks the registry's RDAP service directly.
The rules
From Register.si, read on 9 October 2026.
- 2 to 63 characters of letters, digits and hyphens, with no hyphen at either end. Accented letters such as č, š and ž are allowed too.
- Any person or company can hold one, wherever they live. You don't need an address in Slovenia.
- Cancel within 16 days of registration, as long as the name has no nameservers yet.
- Register or renew for one to five years at a time.
- After expiry the name stays in a 30 day quarantine. The site and email stop working, but the holder can still renew. Then it's deleted and released.
- A registry lock is available through your registrar. Locked names can't be changed except to renew.
- If you register as a private person, WHOIS publishes only a contact email unless you choose to show more. A company's details are public.
- Disputes go through the registry's ADR procedure, with a published list of arbiters and fees.

Prices read on 9 October 2026 unless a row says otherwise. Registrars change them weekly during a rush. Rows marked referral pay me a commission if you buy through them, and your price stays the same. The registry's own list of accredited registrars is the complete version.
The steps
- Check the name above.
- Pick a registrar. I used domains.si, a Slovenian registrar accredited by Arnes, and the registry's list has the rest. Any of them can register the name. The difference is price, interface and support.
- Register for one to five years, and check the renewal price as well as the first year's.
- If the name matters, ask the registrar for a registry lock.
- Point the name at your site, or at your .ai site if you bought it for protection.
Still deciding? .si vs .ai compares the two domains, and what "super intelligence" means now explains the rush. The live count shows how many names have gone so far.
Transfers
Transfers use an AuthInfo password. You pick a password, your current registrar stores its SHA-256 digest with the registry, and you give the plain password to the new registrar. The registry publishes a digest calculator that works it out in your browser.
Questions
Can I register a two letter .si domain?
Two characters is the minimum, so yes in principle. Most two letter names were taken years ago or are on the registry's reserved list.
Do I need a Slovenian address?
No. The registry's terms define a holder as any natural or legal person.
What happens if I don't renew?
Thirty days of quarantine, during which your site and email stop working but you can still renew through your registrar. Then the name is deleted and anyone can register it.
Is my personal data public?
Only a contact email, if you register as a private person, unless you choose to publish more. A company's holder details are public.
